In Their Words: Stories from the Gatineau Valley

When: December 16, 2025

Over the past year, the Fairbairn House Heritage Centre has been working on an exciting project entitled In Their Words: Stories from the Gatineau Valley.

In partnership with award-winning documentary filmmaker Conor Devries, the Centre offered workshops to community members aged 50 and over on documentary filmmaking, directing, capturing oral histories, and more. Participants were then coached and accompanied through the process of creating short documentaries that spotlight seniors living throughout the Gatineau Valley.

We’re thrilled to announce that the first of these films, created by Mélanie Vigneault and featuring Cantley 1889’s Margaret Phillips, will premiere on December 16th at La Grange de la Gatineau in Cantley. The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. La Grange de la Gatineau is located at 80 ch. Summer, Cantley, QC. The event is free to attend, and no RSVP is required. Snacks and refreshments will be served.

In the new year, we will continue the series with the screening of Tina Therrien’s documentary on Brian Doyle at the Wakefield Library. Additional films highlighting Leila Bates, Ken Bouchard, and a final documentary featuring one of Wakefield’s most beloved residents will follow. Stay tuned for more details on these upcoming releases!
