Join us for our Living History Week for Kids, taking place August 10-14, 2026, at the Fairbairn House Heritage Center!
Every day, children can participate in interactive activities offered at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The activities are free, but voluntary donations are greatly appreciated. Registration is required, and participants must sign up in advance using the links provided.
Activities will take place outdoors, weather permitting, and will be moved indoors to the Center in case of inclement weather.
Join Stephanie Tenasco for a fun one-hour beading adventure! You’ll start by looking at some of her favourite beaded creations and chatting about what beadwork is, why it’s special in Algonquin Anishinaabe culture, and how every piece is made with creativity and care.
Then it’s your turn! Each child will choose their favourite colours and create their own beaded pin or necklace to take home. Stephanie will guide everyone step by step, making it easy and fun for both beginners and young beaders.
This workshop is all about being creative, trying something new, and having fun while making something you can be proud of.

Join Michael Cooper to make your own wooden toy. Young woodworkers will have the opportunity to make the wooden toy of their choice! They can create a rocket, a race car, a floating boat, dollhouse furniture, or even a handy toolbox.
Wood, tools, and all assembly materials will be provided.

Join Marie-Pier Lopes in creating an imaginary landscape inspired by the surroundings of the Fairbairn House Heritage Center.
Using watercolor and collage, participants will give free rein to their creativity while exploring the colors, textures, and landscapes around them.

Join Diane Lemire for a collage workshop inspired by the innovative works of Hannah Höch. By playing with layering, shapes, and images, participants will explore a creative and original approach to collage.
Using images cut from magazines and a transfer technique involving clear adhesive tape, you’ll transform everyday images into a unique work of art, rich in texture, surprises, and personal expression.
The materials needed for the transfer technique will be provided. You’re also welcome to bring magazines containing images that inspire you or that you’d like to incorporate into your creation.

Join Diane Lemire for a creative exploration of the covered bridge. Using charcoal rubbings, participants will reveal the knots, grain, and textures hidden in the bridge’s old planks.
Back in the studio, these surprising forms will serve as inspiration for creating whimsical faces and unique characters, bringing to life the little creatures that seem to be hiding in the wood. A playful activity that invites you to see things differently and let your imagination run wild.
Join Anya Sylenko for a guided walk to discover the plants and trees at the Fairbairn House Heritage Center. As they explore the site’s trails and grounds, participants will learn to recognize and identify various plant and tree species found in our region.
This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to observe nature up close, learn more about local biodiversity, and expand your knowledge of plant identification in an enchanting heritage setting.

Join CJ Fleury for a creative workshop where participants will explore the art of embossing using colorful, shimmering metallic foils. Using simple tools and techniques, they will create two- and three-dimensional works while discovering the effects of light, textures, and raised patterns.
This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to experiment with colors, surfaces, and materials to create an original, vibrant, and creative piece of art.

Join the team at the Fairbairn House Heritage Center for a ceramic painting workshop. Each participant will receive a pre-made ceramic mug, created by Murai Ceramics, which they can personalize by letting their creativity run wild with colors and designs inspired by their imagination.
The mugs must be left on site to be fired in a ceramic kiln. They will then be available for pickup at the Fairbairn House Heritage Centre a few weeks later. We will contact each participant when their creation is ready for pickup.
